This article will cover the top 10 alternatives to SendOwl for quickly creating an online store and selling digital products. I will explain how each of these alternatives differs from SendOwl and what its advantages are.

Sellfy is an excellent alternative to SendOwl. Although the lowest priced plan is more expensive than SendOwl’s lowest plan, all of Sellfy’s plans let you sell unlimited products, unlike SendOwl. 

Another benefit of using Sellfy is that it supports print on demand business like Shopify does. SendOwl doesn’t offer a print on demand option. 

With Sellfy’s print on demand option, you will be able to sell t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, and other items with your own unique logo. As soon as an order comes in, Sellfy will print the product and send it to your customer. 

Print on demand has so many benefits: You can start a branded clothing line, for example, without investing any money upfront. 

Other ways to make money include:

Gumroad is an excellent alternative to SendOwl if you want to create a free website. Currently, Gumroad has helped almost 80,000 creators sell their products and services online. 

Starting a profile on Gumroad is easy, and you can import an existing email list, so you don’t have to start from scratch. You can share content and blog posts with your followers and use the five-day audience builder challenge to build a new audience from scratch. 

Once you have created your profile, you can start selling products, including ebooks and videos. Some tools available to Gumroad sellers include: 

  • Rent out films and videos: Rent films instead of selling them. Renters will have 72 hours to watch the movie before it expires. If you’ve rented films on YouTube or Amazon Prime, you will know how this works. 
  • Sell multiple versions: If you are selling an ebook, you can sell it in different versions. You can price the PDF or ePub version at $10 and the audiobook at $15, for example.

You will get paid once a week, on Friday. You can get paid via a bank transfer or via PayPal. 

3. Samcart 

At first glance, Samcart is more expensive than SendOwl.

However, once you dig a bit deeper into what is actually offered on SendOwl’s cheap plans, you will realize that the difference is minimal if you want advanced features.

For example, if you’re going to add multiple users to a SendOwl account, you will need to sign up for the $39/month plan. 

Samcart’s cheapest plan starts at $39/month (when billed yearly). However, it gives you access to lots of useful features you will need to scale your growing business, such as:

  • Unlimited products (you don’t get that with SendOwl – no plans let you sell unlimited products)
  • Custom domains
  • Drag and drop builder
  • Free SSL certificate

Samcart is still more expensive than SendOwl, so I would recommend it as a SendOwl alternative if you plan on getting a higher-priced plan with more options or want to sell unlimited products.

4. Digital Product Delivery 

DPD, or Digital Product Delivery, is a great platform for selling ebooks, themes, video courses, and other types of digital products. 

Like SendOwl, it offers a 30-day free trial. The lowest plan is $10/month – $1 more expensive than SendOwl’s $9/month plan. 

However, SendOwl’s cheapest plan only lets you sell 10 products, while DPD’s most affordable plan enables you to sell double that amount – 20 products. Storage space is the same on both platforms – 1GB of space on the cheapest plan. 

Digital Product Delivery allows you to sell anywhere on the web by copying and pasting a checkout form code. The money will be processed by your payment processor and end up directly in your bank account. 

Just set up your store profile and add your products. You will get the HTML code to embed the cart on other sites, or you can use the text link to share your products on social media or in messages. 

You can embed product widgets of different styles and sizes on your site, or you can embed Pay buttons of different styles and colors.

You can add upsells to the checkout process or allow for instant checkout, so customers can skip the shopping cart altogether. 

In addition, you can give away free products. DPD will collect the customer’s email address and forward it to you to create an email list. 

You can protect your downloads by stamping your PDFs with the buyer’s information. You can also encrypt them so that they can not be printed or copied. 

Some other cool features that make DPD a good alternative to SendOwl include:

5. Payhip 

Payhip is a great alternative to SendOwl if you are looking for a platform with a free plan. The Payhip Free Forever plan lets you sell unlimited products and gives you access to ALL the features. 

The catch is that with the free plan, you will have to pay a five percent fee on all transactions. By upgrading to a higher-priced plan, you can lower that fee or have it removed altogether (keep in mind that PayPal’s/Stripe’s payment processing fee will still apply).

Payhip’s ease of use is perhaps one of the main reasons to choose it. Uploading a product and selling it to customers is easy and doesn’t take long to do. 

Customers can pay via PayPal or credit card. Like SendOwl, Payhip allows you to give your customers the option of paying whatever they like (you can set a minimum). 

You can provide special coupons to all customers or give customers who share your stuff on social media exclusive discounts. You can even set up an affiliate program, so your customers can earn for referring friends and family. 

In addition to setting up an online store, you can embed a checkout page on any website. 

By default, customers will only be able to download an ebook or digital product three times. This limit is to prevent them from sharing the link with other people; Payhip also allows you to stamp PDF downloads to prevent piracy. 

In addition to selling one-off digital products, you can create a membership site. You can set up several plans and upload content that is exclusive to specific plan members. 

You can offer a free trial option for your premium plans, and customers can be given the option of managing and upgrading their plans by themselves in their personal dashboards. 

Payhip is simple but good. The free plan allows you to start small – since you only pay a transaction fee, you will only pay when you make money. 

6. E-Junkie

E-junkie is not entirely free, but they do have a cheaper plan than SendOwl. For just $5/month, you can sell up to 10 products – you would need to pay $9 on SendOwl for that. 

The downside is that with E-junkie’s $5 plan, you will only get 200 MB of storage space, limiting what you can sell. With that amount of storage space, you should be able to sell a few ebooks, however. 

The $10/month plan, however, lets you sell 40 products. It’s just $1/month more than SendOwl’s $9/month plan, and it enables you to sell 30 products more. 

For $20/month, you can sell 150 products, and for $40/month, you can sell an unlimited number of products. As you probably know by now, none of SendOwl’s plans let you sell unlimited products.

You can sell ebooks, art, music, lectures, and other digital products on your own website, on a hosted storefront on the E-junkie website, or on social media, using the provided product links. 

Another reason to choose E-junkie over SendOwl is that you can sell your digital products offline! E-junkie will provide special codes that you can sell to people at trade shows, events, and on the go. 

Then, your customers will be able to use those codes to access your digital products when they go online. 

Here are some of the reasons E-junkie makes for a great SendOwl alternative (especially considering the cheaper pricing): 

  • PDF stamping with the buyer’s name, email, and transaction ID helps deter piracy
  • Sell on the E-junkie marketplace to get free exposure
  • Sell physical products, including bundled product packages
  • Let customers pay what they want
  • Use free products to collect buyer information

7. Zipsell

Zipsell is an entirely free and open source self-hosted platform for selling digital downloads. If you are looking for a simple, open source, and totally free SendOwl alternative, I would recommend Zipsell. 

I will admit that Zipsell is rather basic. However, it does its job – you can set up a product page, upload the product file, accept payments from your customers via Stripe, and automatically send an email with an expiring download link to customers. 

The cool part about Zipsell is that even though it is entirely free, it still allows you to sell unlimited products to unlimited customers. 

What makes Zipsell interesting is that its founder, Jon Yongfook, created a goal of starting 12 startups in 12 months. One of those startups was Zipsell.

There are no transaction fees from Zipsell, and you can use your own branding. 

Although Zipsell is free, the founder does plan on selling a Zipsell guide in the future. The Zipsell guide will be separate from the product and will consist of a PDF teaching you how to make the most out of the Zipsell software. 

Also, the founder plans on selling a white label Zipsell business plan for $999/year. With the white label plan, you will be able to use Zipsell to create your own Zipsell platform. 

In other words, you can let other sellers sell their digital products on your white label platform and charge a transaction fee for each sale. It’s a great business opportunity, but it is not available yet.

8. Selz

According to Selz, they are a better alternative than SendOwl because they offer more features. Indeed, although Selz is a bit more expensive than SendOwl, they do have some features that SendOwl lacks, including: 

  • Unlimited storage on all plans
  • 24/7 live chat customer support
  • Sell unlimited products on all plans
  • In-store payments with POS
  • Dedicated account manager on all plans
  • Done-for-you stores and social media sales channels
  • Add staff accounts on all plans

You can collect in-store payments with either Square Point of Sale or iZettle Point of Sale. 

Some other cool features of Selz include: 

  • Sell directly from your Facebook page or Instagram profile
  • Set up Google Shopping campaigns and track them from your dashboard
  • Connect third-party shipping label providers

However, even though that makes Selz more expensive than SendOwl, you also get a lot more for your money. As mentioned, some perks you will get include a dedicated account manager, unlimited products, unlimited storage, 24/7 live chat, in-store POS, and more. 

Done for you stores start at $599/month. Although you will get a dedicated team of marketers, designers, and eCommerce experts setting up your stores and sales channels and managing your business, I do think the price is a bit high for what you get.

  • Ebooks
  • HTML/PDF packages
  • Subscriptions to up to 100 members on the free plan, with a minimum price of $19.99 (FlickRocket will take 25%)

Even though you can sell for free, FlickRocket collects a transaction fee on digital products, starting from $0.99 per sale.

The final SendOwl alternative I will mention is Ecwid. You can use it for free, forever, unlike SendOwl. 

Although Ecwid is primarily set up for selling physical products, they allow you to sell digital downloads. You can add as many files per product as you want, with a file size limit of 25 GB, which is pretty good. 

However, to sell digital products, you will need to sign up for a paid plan. That starts at just $12.50/month when paid annually, and you will get access to features like mobile point of sale.

Wrapping It Up: What Is The Best SendOwl Alternative? 

Sellfy is the best SendOwl alternative that is the closest regarding what it provides. It also has the advantage of offering print on demand features. 

If you are looking for a free alternative, I would recommend Gumroad, but free sites will limit you in what you can do.
